A Word About Foreign Service Institute (FSI) Courses
Many Audio-Forum full-length courses were developed by the Foreign Service Institute (FSI) for the U.S. State Department, whose diplomatic personnel must learn a language quickly and thoroughly. The Foreign Service Institute is the federal government's primary training institution for officers and support personnel of the U.S. foreign affairs community, preparing American diplomats and other professionals to advance U.S. foreign affairs interests overseas and in Washington.
During the past 20 years, the FSI has revised and perfected these courses to meet their standards. The courses have been tested through usage before release to the public.
Other Audio-Forum courses have been developed by teams of language school teachers at major universities, including Modern Russian from Georgetown University and Speak Mandarin from Yale University. Learn to Speak Danish and Learning Norwegian represent courses published completely in the foreign language in Europe for which Audio-Forum has prepared ancillary materials to assist English-speaking learners.

Driving and Language Learning
Many of our customers tell us they want to learn another language while driving, but are concerned about the substantial book that accompanies some of our courses.
Wlth Audio-Forum courses the principal medium of instruction is the audio cassette. The printed material supports the tapes by providing explanations and points of grammar and usage. Thus, the book is a supplementary part of the Audio-Forum language-learning experience.
The only way to master a new language is through memorization and practice. Our tapes are carefuHy designed to help this process and an average learner wiH review a tape 4 to 6 times before mastering the material. Therefore, we recommend that the car-learner go through a new lesson the first time with the book while at home or in the of fice. Thereafter, the necessary additional reviews can be done in the car. In fact, it's ideal to get this practice without a book at your elbow.
Once you get started you'll be amazed at how quickly you will be thinking and responding in the target language without going through a laborious translation process.
